Cid the Dummy is a traditional 2.5-D platformer aimed at a slightly younger set. In Cid, you play as a crash test dummy who finds himself complaining to his coworkers about being bored with his mundane life. It is revealed that Professor Werken—some kind of friendly, gadget-loving, mad scientist— has overheard Cid’s repeated aspirations to be more than just a crash test dummy. One day, Dr. Werken finally greases the squeaky wheel by sending Cid off on a quest to find his missing daughter. (Naturally, Cid gripes about this, too.) |

Ever since playing Donkey Kong Jr. Math on the NES, I’ve viewed educational games as one might react to walking down the street and seeing a griffin—nonplussed, quite curious, yet wise enough to keep my distance. Let’s be honest, here—if it doesn’t involve platforming, swords and shields, some type of ball, ninjas, magic spells, or lots and lots of shooting, I’m a little out of my element. However, like most, I enjoy reaffirming my secret belief that I am indeed a genius. A diamond-in-the-rough, IQ-tests-don’t-tell-the-full-story, type. So, naturally, I have a hard time passing on brain teasers. |

Nintendo’s vaunted pack-in, Wii Sports, continues to be one of the most exciting, most engaging, experiences on the console. This has to be both a point of pride and a source of depression for the folks at Nintendo—hey, we put together a simple-yet-excellent game that any and everyone can (and does) play, one that fabulously demonstrates what the innovative new control setup can do… but at the same time, really? Seriously, no one can come up with a better, motion-control-driven, effort, one that really pushes the Wii? Even given two and a half years? |

Full Disclosure: There’s absolutely no way I can be counted upon to review Samurai Shodown Anthology in a subjective and fair manner. I'm completely nuts for anything Shodown-related. Since I first played it in the basement of Brady Commons a decade and a half ago, Samurai Shodown has easily been my favourite 2-D fighting game series of all time. Watching the series progress through its sequels has been a lot like watching a violent, bloody, son, grow up. |

Quick, name three of the four sanctioned boxing commissions! Who currently holds the heavyweight title in any of those commissions?
Pretty sad how heavyweight boxing has fallen, eh? Love him or hate him, you knew when a Tyson fight was on, back in the day. And of course I don’t need to mention the popularity of legends like Foreman or Ali. It all seems a lot more anonymous, now. Gone are the days when a houseful of pals and I would order a pay-per-view special and cram around the TV, crazy with anticipation. So, a game like Ready 2 Rumble: Revolution—with its completely fictional characters and celebrity parodies—loses a bit less steam when compared to a hardcore boxing title based upon reality. The ‘who’ of it all seems to matter a whole lot less, these days. Good thing, too, since Revolution couldn’t possibly be further from a boxing sim. |
